At that point, 'Lockjaw' made the decision to retire and take on a managerial/training role in Camp Jersey. He will certainly be missed by his New Jersey fans.

During his final fight with Minoru Narahashi(and following a very controversial loss to Tono Pena in which Collins made his disdain for the decision publicly known), a second round slip severely worsened a lower back injury that had nagged him for two years. He held on for a unanimous decision victory, but his next training camp went characteristically poorly. It was again worsened while sparring with Seth Hughes, and he did not make weight after he could not complete his camp.

Devon Collins short, injury-stuffed career was constantly marked by poor training camps, but heroic in-ring performances. An underdog at all times, Collins had the heart of a lion. He was only knocked out once in 43 fights. He was never submitted.

Down Neck, Newark, NJ's favorite MMA son, Devon Collins is a very popular fighter that the 'Jersey' camp was based around from the beginning. Of Polish/Irish descent, he displays a stunning iron chin and impregnable submission defense. Devon Collins never gives up in the ring, forcing 14 of his first 15 losses to go to decision. Though he has yet to reach the EFC, he is an ever-popular fighter for the lower organizations, specifically in his home state of NJ.

Getting lockjaw may be the only way he'd make weight.
