Barnes uses his under and overhook to hit a solid body toss takedown, landing in full guard. Barnes takes a risk going for a leglock from being caught in Browns guard. It doesn't pay off as Rick makes his way to standing. Barnes narrowly dodges a cross from Rick, but falls catching him in his guard. Rick Brown tries to pass guard but "Trooper" stops him with a well timed punch. Patrick Barnes attempts an armbar from the bottom, but Rick Brown slips out at the last moment. Rick Brown tries to pick up "Trooper" for a powerbomb, but "Trooper" releases his guard and ends up in stand up. "Trooper" lands a quick elbow, cross that floors Rick Brown. The round comes to an end.
Round 3 Patrick Barnes fakes a takedown attempt and clinches with Rick. Rick works the clinch to his advantage, carefully connecting with precise strikes. Rick dodges an uppercut to the chin, though loses his balance and falls to the ground, with Patrick standing over him. Patrick attempts to drop a fist on Brown, but misses and lands in his guard. Rick connects with some unorthodox punches from the bottom position. Brown shifts his hips to get better position in the guard. Rick Brown goes for a kimura from the bottom, but Barnes slips out at the last second. Rick connects with some unorthodox punches from the bottom position. The bell signals the end of round 3.
